Sample compiles OK - do I still need Sevice Pack 5?

Hi,
As far as I'm aware I have never installed any of the MS Service packs for Visual Studio. Knowing that I needed SP5 to run Torque I tried to compile the sample app anyway to see if it would work without SP5. I was pleasantly suprised when it compiled and executed OK (Well it does in OpenGL, but D3D currently doesn't render properly but I think that is another matter altogether)
So my question is, do i really need to download the service pack - and if so, what does it do in reference to Torque?
Thanks very much.

I don't remember exactly, I'm pretty sure it was a compilation issue, but we been making changes... if you can compile and run the test app, then your set :)
