Don't Buy from Amazon

by Gleznov · in Torque Game Engine · 10/05/2005 (12:37 pm) · 29 replies

Hi,

I had to finally cancel my order today after waiting a month and having my shipping estimate date pushed back twice by Amazon.com. Has anyone successfully ordered and received this book from any other sources lately? Ken, if you see this, there's no way I can get it straight from you is there?

I've waited for ages for mine... cancelled it once and re-ordered it. Apparently it's shipped for me, but it won't arrive for another 5 days or so.. Sucks!.. I was considering asking someone on this site to send me a copy, but I'd already replaced my order.

Strange, I haven't had one singel problem with Amazon. They have shipped when they have said to and delivered well within their estimated timeframe.
I have ordered both books from Amazon and they have arrived on time even tough I live in Sweden.
Due to the overseas shipping I gladly accept the near 2 weeks wait, I mean I don't pay for a faster shipping either so..

How long has the total wait been for you guys ??

I order books from Amazon every week and have rarely had a problem. Amazon UK seems to sell books without checking for stock, though. I've been waiting over a year for one that keeps getting pushed back. It isn't a rare book. I just don't want to pay double the price for the US printing.

Otherwise, they are very, very reliable. So is Barnes and Noble's online shop.

Well I got the book in about a week. It came even before their shipping estimate

Thats weird. I got my book from them. It did take about a month for some reason though, so I wouldn't despair. :)

Me too, the final estimaed delivery date of the book was 28-Septemper-2005 and sadly I haven't recieved it yet. But this is the first time it happens with me that Amazon exceeds the estimated date. I really hope to recieve it within the next couple of days.

I ordered it and had it five days later. Are they backordered maybe? Maybe the hurricanes?

I ordered both books from Amazon.com last month. I couldn't wait so I went into a local Barnes&Nobles store and found the first book. I paid a lot more.. but had the actual book in my hands, so I cancelled the first book from amazon. As soon as I did that, the 2nd book order went through and shipped. I got it with regular shipping a week later.

Weird. I ordered mine a few weeks back and got it 2 days later. It must depend on which warehouse they ship from?

Amazon is usally pretty timely. If theres shipping delays its probably for a pretty good reason. I plan on waiting until the book is available used (at 1/3 the price or so) before ordering it.

I've dealt with them twice and they delivered exactly on the promised day. No probs here. Fast and very efficient, along with nice order tracking feature...I could go on website and see exactly when my package arrived in the city, and when it was put on the truck in my zone, etc.

I've never had a single problem with Amazon... they are better than the local book shop :)

I ordered both books from Amazon with no problems. In fact they said it would be 5 days, and it was here in 2.

I had no problems with my order of Advanced Game programming all in one, it took exactly the 1.5 months they said it would take. In retrospect, I often wonder how it's possible it takes a month and a half to mail something across the United States. Those ponies must be tired after all that running...

I paid for fast-shipping (3-5 days i think) and amazon delieverd in that time-frame, as they always have for me!

The fact that it took another 8-10 days to rescue it from the college post-office is but another matter... :-(
