In your opinoin which would you get? Torque or the Cipher engine? I personally like Torque I have played around with the demo and found it very user friendly, the Chiper looks impressive but there is no demo so I can't mess with. But I am Still thinking about purchasing Torque....

Well, Cipher is supposed to be very good, but I'm not sure how user-friendly it is though. I think Torque is a little more customizable so I'm sticking with it. :)

Cipher looked good to me. The demo's were nice. It definatley had a different look from TGE and TSE.

Yes the demo is nice but it's very limited.
You can't change anything in the demo and all of the features in that demo are nothing better then torque.
Also cipher is not very suitable for large outdoor terrains/maps.

However I tested the cipher a year ago, and they probably changed some things in that engine.

I own both. I prefer TSE. 'Nuff said

I own both also. Cipher is a decent engine, it's not near as complete though as Torque. It also hasn't received an official update in about a year.

I own both and prefer TSE. I can't say much bad about Cipher, though. I just prefer TGE/TSE. Plus, I like cross-platform support.

Cipher does have support for large outdoor terrains now. It also has a Linux port in the works. As far as modifiying it, it is a lot easier to modify than Torque so whoever thought it wasn't is incorrect.
I own both Cipher and TGE s I'm not just saying this. That being said, I don't like either one.

THe linux port has been at the same state for much longer than their updates. AFAIK, it petered out long ago.

Leaving away features, think about the root of your problem: if you want to buy a commercial engine you probably want to sell your products.
As far as I know, Cipher has a bad deployment of finished products. Torque lets you organize your project as you prefer, while Cipher seems to have strict requirements about external resources.
In addition, ever as far as I know, cipher doesn't use proprietary formats so you are exposed to assets stealing from others when releasing something.
Last, but not least, Cipher has no scripting engine so you won't offer much mod support (wich is important for succesful projects).

Bye, Berserk.
