Acclaim Game Licenses for sale

I thought this is interesting. Acclaim has put up for bid some of the numerous game licenses it holds for sale.

Unfortunately, I couldn't tell you what the bidding would start at, but could be a nice way to get a license to a game. Figured that I'd mention this..

I'd be curious to see how much my long-term contribution to Acclaim was really worth.

I learned more about professional wrestling during that stint than I ever wanted to know!

According to the site, it is some kind of bankruptcy auction. I see some pretty nice titles I'd like to have myself.

Do you get the IP or just the right to "publish" the game again (and have the pay the developers)?

It's the right to publish only.

Yeh sadly, its just the right to publish, and considering how old these games are i dont think people would even bother.

Now if they sold the ip on the other hand.....

A LOT of those are ports of arcade games to the PC and home systems, so you wouldn't be able to get the IP anyway, since it actually belongs to Midway, Taito etc. I can see a group like Turner Broadcasting buying up a bunch of the old Genesis/Dreamcast titles though to bolster their new Gametap service with a few 'exclusive' titles.
