Even though this is a great show of TGE flexabilty and useablity, I don't like RPGs in general and not these types either. Good job and good luck though.

Your progress is amazing Josh! :)
Are you using a live patch/update system?
And if so, what are you using?

Yes, the game is capable of patching itself:

www.prairiegames.com/ggplan/liveupdate.jpgwww.prairiegames.com/ggplan/patcher.jpg
In fact, I would recommend that people who download the demo update it. We've added some cool stuff yesterday and today :)

It's super cool to put a demo out that can be upgraded at will. The patcher operates over the https protocol using SSL. I generate SHA checksums every 64k of files (quite anal) and compare the local files to a downloaded remote manifest... the backend uses Subversion...

The patch system works for the demo/beta and OSX/Windows builds... currently, that's FOUR builds I am maintaining all by myself!!! :) This is done with automated packaging scripts which interrogate the world database, mission files, DTS, and DIF assets and gather up only what's needed...

I tried out the demo a little bit, to see that you guys did an awesome job on this game. It is very well put together. You guys deserve a pat on the back for a job well done.

Edit:
One problem that I came about that you may be concerned about is performance. With detail level on "High", which was the default, my computer was chugging on the framerate at some points. At "Very High" it was chugging badly. I haven't upgraded my computer in over 2 years, but my system should be able to handle the graphics in this game. I have played 2004 release titles with very highly detailed graphics, and my PC handled them rather smoothly. I don't know the poly count in your models or the textures resolution in this game, but the performance doesn't add up. Maybe it's just the Torque engine.

Thanks Josh,
I'm checking into Subversion now.
Glad to see someone is juggling multiple builds "live".
Good job!

No Linux version?
#16
10/26/2005 (6:15 am)
To quote MoM FAQ
Quote:
There is a Linux platform layer for the engine. However, we do not currently have resources to officially support a Linux build. We will look into finding someone who may be interested in maintaining a Linux version once we have shipped.

According to GG FAQ on publishing, linux makes the least amount of sales (7%) so it makes sense that if you don't have the resources to support all 3 OSes that Linux would be the last OS in.

Holy crap.. those werewolves are the meanest, most detailed werewolves i've ever seen in a game. Excellent job!

Too bad my laptop's video card sucks too much to run MoM :(

I actually downloaded this earlier today. Found it by googling "Open Source RPG". Anyway, I knew the engine looked familiar ;) Good work. Runs well on my Athlon 64 3400+, 512 ram, and integrated ATI Radeon Xpress 200. Have it set at High detail, at 1280x1024. It should run very well for people with an actual graphics card and more ram. Very impressive and certainly makes me want to work harder on my game.
