This was a big huge suprise of a movie! I guess it was a TV show. Wow. I am so out of touch with TV. I'd never heard of Firefly. Everyone was telling me to watch this and now I know why. Great show. Definitely worth seeing. I want to play a game with levels like the sets in this movie. Fantastic sci-fi sets.

Firefly was a great TV show, but Fox cancelled it after only 11 episodes. I'm so looking forward to seeing this movie ;)

I thought the 'southern twang' dialog was a little stilted at the beginning (yes, I've seen the show). I don't know if it improved or if I got used to it. Either way, it stopped bothering me after the first scene or two.
My only dissapointment was that the theater wasn't packed. Quite a few people, but I'm not expecting a big opening night. OTOH, given the quality of the movie, I'd expect it to last longer than some, just by word of mouth.
So spread the word. Yee-frelling-ha!

@Rodney: As well you should. Decent acting, great writing, great action, funny, smart, you name it.I thought the 'southern twang' dialog was a little stilted at the beginning (yes, I've seen the show). Rumor has it there is to be two sequals if the main movie does well enough. Setup from different persons point of view for different events.

We love Firefly. My wife and I hope they continue the series. There is a void of scifi shows lately. Scifi channel has been playing horror movies and The Flintstone movies.
BTW the only bad thing about Firefly is they put a Baldwin in it, at least it's Adam and not ANY of the others.
Baldwins are the root of all that is bad.

I'm absolutely chuffed that I managed to catch it the other night. Singapore's not due to get it in the theatres til January, but I saw it at a mystery sneak, so everything's shiny. :)
Sequels, Joss Whedon's said that the movie will need to make about $50mil domestically, or $80mil international in order to grease the wheels for followup films. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, because I want more. Some plot lines and histories need developing. :)

Psst, Fail, Adam Baldwin isn't actually one of the Baldwin brothers; he just happens to share the same last name.I'm absolutely chuffed that I managed to catch it the other night. Singapore's not due to get it in the theatres til January, but I saw it at a mystery sneak, so everything's shiny. :)

It's the best science-fiction movie I've seen all year... and yes, this is in the year that showed us the fall of a particular Jedi knight that we've been waiting for for over20 years. Serenity actually has some interesting characters and good dialog (if in a pretty unique dialect / style).
BTW, did you notice that the first scene aboard Serenity was one LONG SINGLE SHOT from the bridge to the cargo bay? They built the ship as a full, single stage.
And yeah, I was a fan of the short-lived TV series. I really, REALLY wanted to see more. I'm hoping there'll be more Serenity movies.

I saw the sneak preview of Serenity back in May or so. Loved it then, love it even more now. They cleaned it up a bit, added a few layers of polish in the form of editing and special effects (not to mention music, which makes a world of difference). It's the best science-fiction movie I've seen all year... and yes, this is in the year that showed us the fall of a particular Jedi knight that we've been waiting for for over20 years. @ Jay: not to hijack the thread....I worked on the feature film, "Sphere". The entire undersea 'Habitat' the actors lived/worked in was constructed as a single 3-story 'set', quite impressive what money, design and talented individual's bring to a movie...;).

I saw it again. Damn fine movie. I want more. This is my kind of Sci-fi:futuristic westerns. The shot where the chick is standing over bodies is my favorite.

But dang it, formulas are formulas because they WORK, durn it. I've seen it twice and I wanted to cheer both times!
I mean, being a fan of the series and Joss Whedon in general, I *KNOW* how willing he is to kill off major characters in a heartbeat. I mean, he killed off Buffy the Vampire Slayer twice (three times if you include her counterpart in the "Dopplegangland" alternate world). So you never really know which character is safe. That just makes their survival more of a victory, I guess.

Heh - that was a gratuitous, formulaic shot. But dang it, formulas are formulas because they WORK, durn it. I've seen it twice and I wanted to cheer both times!

Couldn't wait for opening day, only to find out it wasn't playing at the local theater. Have to travel 70 miles to see it, but I'm going this weekend. Glad to see the entire original cast in the movie. Every one of them perfect for the part, and they play off each other better than anything I've seen in a long time. Glad to hear there may be sequels, I just can't get enough of this one. Love the dry humor. As Mark said above, this has everything...

I'm a huge sci-fi fan, and have all the channels Dish provides, but for some reason I missed the whole Firefly series. A few months ago my son brought over his boxed set and said I should watch them, because the Serenity movie was coming out soon. Plugged in the first DVD on a Friday evening. Couldn't stop. Watched the whole series non-stop (periodic breaks for nature and to grab food and coffee). Told my wife about it and the next weekend we both did the same thing over again. If I could write a show that had everything I always thought a show should have, this would be it.Couldn't wait for opening day, only to find out it wasn't playing at the local theater. I loved the TV series, Also own the DVD box set. Can't believe Fox canned it so soon..
The TV series was built as one huge set too, adds to the feeling that it is a real ship. But they really upped the ante on the action for this.. How hard is River?.... So cool. Awesome CGI too.
