Searching for developers

Although I've been working in a couple of distributed teams for a while, I have the need at the moment to at least try and search for someone in my local area.
Unfortunately, even in the Advanced Search, I couldn't target specific things such as location, and I don't particularly fancy scrolling through 8000+ developer profiles.
While the chance of someone actually being in my area and registered on GG are quite remote, I was quite surprised that you couldn't do this.
Is there any chance that this shall become a feature later on? Or was there a reason this wasn't implemented to begin with?

Unfortunately, there are some situations in which local talent is much more beneficial to have, and I want to recreate part of the core of one of the projects I'm working (most of the team are in hibernation at themoment) with local people. Particularly programmers at this stage.
Looks like I might have to go cold calling then.

Oh working in a distributed fashion has its advantages, this I know. I'm already working on two different projects in this fashion as it is -- been doing so since late '98 actually.Unfortunately, there are some situations in which local talent is much more beneficial to have, and I want to recreate part of the core of one of the projects I'm working (most of the team are in hibernation at themoment) with local people. Our own team has one member in Brazil, one in New York, one in Canada, and a bunch of Californians. Considering far away candidates gave us access to a much more broad pool of talent than we might otherwise have encountered.
While it is tedious and time consuming, scrolling through the listings is probably the reality here.
Several project leads have made comments supporting the value of 'cold calling' developers rather than waiting for them to respond to an Advert, and it did make a big difference for us.
Good luck with your project and if you are interested in discussing soltuions for long range collaboration, feel free to email mychal@badlandsgames.com, or check out this thread.
