Arrested Development The Game

I want to play a game like Arrested Development the TV show. Any ideas of how this game could work? The most obvious to me is simple surival. If you can last the entire game without jumping off a bridge to end it all, you win. But, I'm sure that someone can think of a better game to make of this show. It should be a Game in a Day challege for T2D using photos of characters from the internet.

Now. If you don't know what Arrested Development is... shame on you... it's the funniest show on TV right now(if you don't have HBO to watch Curb Your Enthusiasm) and it plays on Monday nights on FOX.

I design and direct games for Somatic Vision. We primarily make games for use with biofeedback, but our latest game, Tropical Heat, a jet ski racing game, is for regular gamers and is available on PC/Mac and will be available on ipad and iphone soon.

Some of us live outside the coverage area of "HBO" and "FOX" and so don't have a clue what the hell you're talking about.

"Jump off a bridge"??? Just don't have your character walk near the edge, methinks!

Unfortunately, no one can be told what Arrested Development is.

You have to see it for yourself.

After you see what Michael Bluth deals with... you'll understand why it would be an effort to keep him from jumping off of a bridge.

There you go. That's the game play. A sim game where you deal with the Bluth family's insanity to keep Michael Bluth sane.

I've seen Arrested Development a few times (I think it was when it first came out, a few years ago) and it was fairly good from what I remember, but i still have to agree with Nigel, I dont remember anyone going crazy and killing themselves, so I dont really get what you mean (but again, I dont watch the show or TV in general these days, so I pretty much am living in a cave, TV-wise)

Sigh.

Poor Michael Bluth is a giant magnet for Murphy's Law thanks to his unbelievably idiotic, dependant, self centered family who all look to him to solve their problems. Michael suffers from a lifetime of living to please his father and family so he doesn't have the sense to just walk away and let them fend for themselves. The whole time you are watching you are thinking that it's amazing that the guy doesn't just lose it and find the closest bridge to jump off. The level of insanity that his family escapades reach makes the Simpsons and Family Guy families seem like the Cleavers and Cosbys. So, no one has actually jumped off of a bridge in the show. It's a comedy.

Well it certainly seems like quite a creative idea... if you can figure out a way to successfully execute on it

I guess since I still dont really get the game-play concepts it seems more difficult than it probably is (you probably have these things figured out already)

are there existing games that follow a similar concept? if not, then super props for originality :)

At best this would be a funny idea for a Game in a Day. I thought of the idea after reading Josh Moore's .plan for ADD games and after realizing that I worked thru the season premiere of Arrested Development tonight. I thought it might be funny for people who like the show, which, by the way, just won a bunch of Emmys. It would be a funny bizarro sims now that I think about it. But this game would be insane to try to make seriously. The amount of work it would take just to think up all of the funny things would be rediculous.

Brilliant!

Make it 'like' a Sims game and it would sell like hotcakes!

Does anyone really use the term 'hotcakes' anymore?
