Good sites offering free game content

by Andrew · in Game Design and Creative Issues · 09/19/2005 (5:13 am) · 6 replies

I'm a noob game developer and working on a game right now. I don't have the cash to buy the content packs or and models so could anyone recommend any good sites where I can download free models?

In Google We Trust.

Models that arent Torque ready can be so with Blender or Milkshape for very little money.

I notice that most of the models are in 3DS format. I have MilkShape but how do I make these models Torque-ready?

Im not a milkshape user, but Id guess that milkshape can import 3ds files. Any milkshape users want to chime in on this one?

Yes, milkshape can import 3ds. Go to File->Import->Autodesk 3DS. It's about halfway down the list. From there you can use one of the milkshape tutorials for using ms2dts. I haven't done this for quite awhile, but search around, and you'll find some help there.

I have a resource to add here. It is very much a work-in-progress and I only started it a few weeks ago, but I am building a library of open-source prop models that you can download.

Most don't have textures yet and they are currently only in Blender format. Feel free to stop by and make comments or requests or even volunteer to contribute if you are so inclined.

I'll be making a more formal announcement as I get a more substantial set of work done, but I couldn't pass up your question.
