Hi All,

I think i have made a big mistake buying Caligari GameSpace and later on TrueSpace..

The programs seems crash frequently, exporters importers dosent do their job correct.. Terrible slow with high polycount..
Problems with animation... etc.. etc..

Is it just me who have these problems or is there someone here who has simlar problems ????????

The versions i have is gS 1.6 and tS 6.6 with Conversionpak, ipak depak etc...

I starting to get desperate because i am falling way of behind my dealine now ..

I have also tryed, Milshape - No problems.. Maya - No problems..

So it cant be my computer who makes the problem. (Dell Precision M70)

Give me some Advise please,

Witch program to buy, Maya ? Max ??

/Thomas

I say work with what you have. Since every 3d tool has a learning curve, its probably best not to switch them in the middle of a project. It also seems like slowing down when doing your graphics work might help. :-)

I have TS and GS, I have experienced the crashes you describe. Unfortunately Caligari is more concerned about releasing version 7 TrueSpace than fixing bugs that have existed for some time. Although, Louis has a point about working with what you have; if you are on a timeframe, I would suggest doing a good bit of research, and then moving onto a SUPPORTED modeler.

Blender is free. I haven't tried it yet, but based on user reviews I am going to check it out. Oh yeah, I have TrueSpace and GameSpace too! :)

I would recommend Softimage, especially since its under $500 bucks for a great Modeling tool. I like Maya over 3d Max, but both a pretty expensive. I was going to get Truespace too, but figured if I saved more money, I could get Softimage which I feel is a better product. Plus I believe that someone is working on an exporter for Softimage due later this year.

Blender is pretty good, might take a while to get used to it :D, blender has a really powerful uv mapping tool though (LSCM).
another free program that i use is Wings 3D, really easy to do subd modeling in wings 3d :P

Max seems to be the most supported for torque , but I prefer Maya.

I'm a TrueSpace 6.6 user and the DarkIndustries v2 .DTS exporter works great!
It took awhile to learn the ins and outs of it but it's working for me.
I did have to move my start01 group to the root in between saves (to prevent a crash on load) and I found a plugin for scale normalizing so that I didn't have to export the mesh to .X format.
I'm using a .BVH (motion capture) compatible skeleton and a 3K poly mesh and have been exporting character .dts and .dsq no problem.
I have to admit it was painful learning all the tricks.
Let me know if you have any specific crashes in TS or issues exporting.

I had too many problems with Gamespace - it was crashing too much and the undo system never clicked with me. I got so frustrated with the program that I had requested Caligari to refund me - which they accomidated. Now I sit and wait for XSI 5 and the exporter... There is an exporter/converter right now but only for static objects. For $500 you cant go wrong with that program.
