Disappointing! Top Game Demo doesn't work

by Faraz Ahmed · in Torque Game Engine · 09/15/2005 (7:18 am) · 3 replies

Glad to know there is a responsive & active user community here. I was a victim of recurring factor #1! Thanks for the quick response. I'll learn more about such recurring issues (the hard way) as time progresses!

There are many reasons why this can happen...

1) Are you using an up-to-date graphics driver?

2) Maybe download was corrupt?

3) You should try to download the official Torque Demo (on the TGE Product page).
If it works on your compter so will Torque if you buy it.

As I said there are several reasons why a game demo doesn't work. Try redownloading the demo or download some other demos (offical Torque Demo). Maybe someone from Bravetree (or gg) can check the demo.

Concerning the 10x10 pixels that act as windows into the actual scene:
Is it like trying to see outside from behind a muddy screen door? (only black instead of mud)

Are there any other artifacts on the screen? Maybe a texture file got corrupted like Marco suggested. I had something similar to this happen the first time I installed Morrowind: Elder Scrolls. I updated my drivers, re-installed the game and it worked fine. It's not too large of a download, try and DL/install it again and see what happens.

I was excited about the concept of GarageGames and Torque especially but the demo failing this blatantly is like someone pouring cold water on my head!

Hehe, quite funny how you can diagnose the problem as TGE's when it's probably you that haven't installed correct drivers.
Do I need to mention that Tribes 2 runs on alot of computers? So does ThinkTanks, and alot of other games. They rarely have problems.

One reoccuring factor is people that haven't:

1. Downloaded new drivers
2. Haven't made sure the HDD is okay (seen this before.. ran scandisk, solved)
