Radiant setup for Torque

by Keith Bores · in Artist Corner · 09/13/2005 (11:03 pm) · 16 replies

I know this is posted somewhere I just cannot find it. I'm trying to prototype interiors with gtkRadiant (mac user without virtualPC). I have gtkRadiant working. How do I export so map2dif will work? What map setting do I need to be in (Q2,JK,Q3)? I am also wondering if there is a resource for this. I know about radiant's licencing and understand that most people use quark. I am waiting for constructor until I build my interiors (since I have tons of mdeling left to do).

Thank you in advance for any help.

I dont think there is currently a way to do this if there where i wouldnt have purchased 3d world studio not only that but if you want to sell yoru game you have to purchase gtk liscense which is around 5 k so id re consider maybe using 3d world studio instead.

If you're waiting for Constructor, why are you trying to get Radiant working for interiors? You should be able to use Map2Dif Alpha with it, though. Things like patches aren't implemented, though.

I'd love to hear how to do this also. I peeked at it recently , but didn't really get a chance to spend time figuring it out.

Ok, to clarify a little. GTKRadiant works on MacOS X. What I need to know is what map setting do I need to use to be able to export using map2dif. What map format (Q3, JK2 etc) is compatible? I have read that valve220(sp?) map formats are compatible but used in GTKRadiant. I'm pretty sure map2dif works on MacOS X (but have not tested). THIS IS NOT FOR USE IN A DEPLOYED COMMERCIAL GAME. It is so I can build interiors and test them and learn from them in TGE (1.3). I will use constructor (hopefully) for the interiors in the deployed game thus negating the liscense fee of Radiant. I want to learn how to convert a map to a dif, import it to TGE and do all of this on a mac.

please help.

A list of supported map file formats is on this page:

http://www.garagegames.com/mg/projects/tge/artist.php

look out for the "DIF Tools" section

OK, a quake 2 file should convert to a dif. Thank you.

Have you managed to get radiant working with torque yet, i have virtual PC but whenever i use the map2dif application it says there is an error with the .map file, what did you export from radiant to make it work?

Actually I have not even touched it. I just got my desktop mac upgraded (a 1.8 G4 rocks). I do plan I really trying to learn GTKRadiant in the coming weeks. I will post my expierences with it in a forum or resource.

I am still not 100% convinced that you could use this for a commercial game now that it has gone completely GPL. I would rather support Garage games and buy Constructor whenever (*IF*) it ever comes out for the Mac platform. I'm sure we will be behind the curve like TSE for awhile :( Of course if I am wrong someone from garage games could say so .... :)

Constructor will launch with both a Windows and a Mac build at the same time (we just showed off the Mac build at MacWorld a couple of weeks ago).

Matt: Does that mean a release is coming soon?

Or are you just teasing us again? :)

Better question Matt, does this mean there will not be a Linux build,
or much like TSTPro, the Linux version is always "in the works"?
Great that Constructor is coming along and all, just would be nice to not have to purchase windows or mac to get it going.

Ron Yacketta is doing the Linux port of Constructor. He has had it fully working at various times in the development cycle but I believe it is currently broken (an issue with using system menus). If/when the Linux version of Constructor launches will be completely dependent on how long it takes Ron to get it up and running.

Get to work Ron =)

Thanks for the info Matt.
I wish Ron had a paypal donations link, he spends so much time working on the Linux community ports of various things, I sure I'm not alone when I say I'ld gladly donate to keep him going, especially considering all the health problems he's been through during the course of events.

@Dreamer,

Donations? hrmm interesting, would rather have a paycheck ;) tis like working a second job at times...

I'll see what I can get done for Constructor, had it launched with most functionality working before IGC; unfortunatly a HDD crash (as well as failure to use SVN) has left me starting over :( Yah, go ahead and flame me about my poor SCM!

boo hiss

Ok, I have GTKRadiant working and creating Q3 maps. Really simple Maps but they work. I am going to try the map2dif util and see if I can get this thing into Torque. The install is very straight forward and works like a charm. I hate the interface. I may just see what I can do in blender and wait for constructor.
