Advanced 3DGPAI1 - DEM Data?

I was reading through chapter 11 on using real-world terrain and it gives a link to http://gisdatadepot.com/ to get .dem files. I went there went to the section to get DEM data and downloaded a couple files, but all I get are a collection of .ddf files. Do I have to do something to convert them to .dem? Or am I looking in the wrong part of the site?

Working fine now (for anyone else who hits this too :)
