Hammer Illegal? The Quest to find out :)

by Justin Elkins · in General Discussion · 09/04/2005 (7:52 am) · 24 replies

Ive been around lately to see if hammer is legal or not for the torque game engine. So far Ive heard some pretty different answers from both sides. On here ive heard that were unsure..., Not able to because of there Eula and that we are able to because valve has allowed torque game engine owners to use it for use in their games. Here is a post I found on the VERC website:

Quote:
there's a special agreement that allows TGE sdk owners to use Hammer commercially, too, in any TGE developed game (special special special case).

So in the beginning, Worldcraft started out just as a Quake editor and then it became an exclussive part of Valve and HL? Anyone knows abit of history on this regard? I know how to use the different versions; workflow hasn't changed that much but embetterments have.
I've tried versions: 1.5b, 1.6, 1.6a (Quake) -- 2.0 (that came with the HL game), 2.1, 3.3 and Hammer! (3.4). Right now I use Hammer to develop my levels for the TGE (Torque game engine http:\\www.garagegames.com )..the special special special case.

I have emailed them about this issue so I may post what they will say about the situation...
If they reply with a yes I will reply to them with the EULA in mind.
Hopefully soon we can put to rest this question of if its legal or not.

I think someone said you could use Hammer legally if you buy a license version.
I would suggest using QUARK or Cshop for now. The Torque Constructor is supposed to be in the final testing stages by what other threads/blogs in the forums are saying. So until then use Quark or Cshop.

We use Quark with very little problems. But, we will be getting Torque Constructor when it comes out. TC will be the best program to use because it is built with the Torque Platform.

So until then, we will still have this question keep coming up every three months.
