Cinematic orc model

This is something I've been working at (on again off again) for about a year and a half. It's my first forray into true high poly modeling. It's just an exercise demo piece that I hope to finish before I die....hahahaha.....nah but I figure in a few more months it will finally be done as long as I reapply myself. This is clearly not meant for games.

If I had to crit, I'd say:
The deltoid looks a little off, because of the division between the deltoid and the bicep. The deltoid is triangular and comes to a point where it inserts into the arm bone... you've got it more coming down square-ish-like and looking like it inserts directly into the bicep itself...
The Sterno-cleido-mastoid is a bit thin... for such a strong fellow I'd expect it to be thicker (and maybe not raised so far from the surface.)
The wrist area needs a lot more definition to show the bony structure underneath... looks kinda cartoony compared to the rest of the model which looks more realistic.
I agree that the "love handle"-ness of the lower abdomen is a nice touch, but it looks a little out of place when you consider how "zero body fat" the rest of the model looks.
Anyway, good stuff and keep on truckin.

Looking good! As LoTekk says, the anatomy is pretty accurate. I like the face Maybe not so good for a base shape, but it sounds like you're just doing it for fun anyway. :)If I had to crit, I'd say:

As for the wrists, hands, and lower arms.....they're actually going to be enclosed in rigid gauntlets so there's really no need to put in that much detail into that area of the body (it's also why I didn't give him fingernails). Originally I wanted him to be very big...muscular, but in a beefy "I eat too much cause I'm a badass" sort of way. The legs need their musculature felshed out for shape and size....then softened a bit. I think once that's done his pot belly will look more suitable.

Thanks for all the comments. The body physique I am shooting for is sort of a cross between an ape and a big ass body builder. I've been studying anatomy books as well as muscle mags for a while now. A lot of people's issues with topology stem from the fact that they're using a standard size man without extreme body definition. A lot of body builders arms, shoulders and backs look much much different on the surface in spite of containing the same underlying geometry (hence the blockier shoulder muscles). I kind of agree about the collar bones being a bit small......biut I'll take a look at those again once I finish the legs.As for the wrists, hands, and lower arms.....they're actually going to be enclosed in rigid gauntlets so there's really no need to put in that much detail into that area of the body (it's also why I didn't give him fingernails). Man, that's one of best orcs around. One thing that troubles me- you do not model details on his hands because they will be covered but then... what about his dick ? Not that I mind orc running around with...ekhm ... his huge bayonet flashing (fits tribal creatures quite well) but this dangling thing might spoil heroic fantasy theme a bit...

Thanks. Yeah a lot of friends have poked fun at me, but this was more of a high poly "cinematic" exercise. I was simply making in anotomically correct to demonstrate that I fully understand the male humanoid form. But yeah.....once I finish the legs I'm going to full in that area with nothing: just a bump. :P

Orcs like to streak too

but i thought orcs were created by burying elves under the ground, or something like that :P
i think it's kind of funny talk of a realistic orc... cuz u know, we all took Mythological Anatomy 101 in school.

Well, if you are going to have a realistic model, you might as well make it realistic right!but i thought orcs were created by burying elves under the ground, or something like that :P

I kind of took the warcraft line on their physique......more or less mean muscle guy meets gorilla head and jaws, straight up with the pointy ears and bad posture.

Here's an update. I didn't add ankles or feet since he would be wearing heavy duty boots. This is most of the base modelling complete. I still need to model his jaws and teeth, and his tongue. But that's about it. Then it's on to armor and equipment, and finally a small polish pass. Once the modelling is complete I'll transition to the pain that is uv'ing and texturing.

Another quick update....several more hours invested into the finer details of the boots. I think their intended form and look is starting to come together.

After little andrew beefed up, no one ever made fun of his orc booties again.

Cool...will he also get a pair of skis and some poles to go with that?

Actually they did, but you never heard from those kids ever again. Ever. And no, no skis nor poles.

Now he looks like seriously pissed off coal miner (just kidding- model is great and without any doubts it still gets better)

Love it man, very cool :)

However, don't forget when you texture him tatoo the name "Mom" on his arm somewhere. Do it in really fancy lettering so unless you look real close you can't tell what it says. Or write it in Orc script.

Anyway nice work, and that boots look really great.

I think his head is way too small. Does that mean you he is really stupid? And his stance looks a little strange to me, as his back is pushed backward too much for my taste. I think i can sit on his shoulder quite comfortably. (nah just kidding)Anyway nice work, and that boots look really great.
