Cartgraphy Shop 5 will be known as 3D World Studio.
There is a public beta test available at www.leadwerks.com.
The Early Adopter version will be available any day now, and the final version will be ready in about 4 weeks. The program will initially export .map and .x, but many more formats are being added, including direct export to Torque Game Engine .dif maps.

You can use .x right now.

I'll see what I can do. I don't recommend using .3ds, because they don't store normals. You can use .x right now.

How cna you use .x files right now? I posted this on the leadwerks forums, but you haven't seen it. On my release version 5.24 the Import is inactive and I don't see anywhere I can load in .X meshes. What am I missing?

You can place meshes in any subsidrectory or sub-subdirectory or sub-sub-subdirectory...get the idea?...and the program will detect them.

Place your .x meshes anywhere in your enginepath directory (by default, this is the program directory). The mesh will then be available from the objects creation menu. The reason the program works like this is so you can place referenced meshes in your map, and can always edit or replace the mesh file later, and the map will load the new mesh. You can place meshes in any subsidrectory or sub-subdirectory or sub-sub-subdirectory...get the idea?...and the program will detect them.

Thanks, I'll try that out right now. :)

I have downloaded the Demo yesterday to try it. While testing it, the follwing questions came to my mind:
1. I miss a sphere at the primitives to shap a dome. Is there a possibility to do that?
2. Why is the help not availible in the demo?
3. Are there any more tutorials than one (for example lighting)?
4. The undo function is not working.
5. It would be fine to have more sides than 32 when you create a cylinder.
6. I always have problems with the vertex selection. They do not want to move...

1. There is no sphere primitive.
2. I haven't written help files yet.
3. No.
4. I don't see what you would need more than 32 sides for. This is for realtime applications.
6. You can only select the vertices of an object that is selected.
I am also spending several hours a day just reading the leadwerks forum and updating the program based on user feedback.

Keep in mind that this is the early adopter version. The final version is due in about a month.1. There is no sphere primitive.

will there be a possibility to create a dome (sphere) in the later adopter version?

Hi Josh, will there be a possibility to create a dome (sphere) in the later adopter version?

One feature I want to add in the future is brush smoothing groups...something no one has ever done. At that point, a sphere brush primitive would be a good idea.

I would create a sphere using a map mesh. If you make it using brush geometry, it will be faceted. One feature I want to add in the future is brush smoothing groups...something no one has ever done. At that point, a sphere brush primitive would be a good idea.

I'm planning to buy CS 4 or 3DWS. But I wonder if I'll be able to import 3ds files into 3DWS then export to map file format to use in TGE?
turbosquid has citiy models built in 3ds and they really look cool.
Thanks.
