An "unofficial" TSE demo.
by Joseph Euan · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 08/22/2005 (12:08 pm) · 78 replies
With permission from GG, I've released an unofficial TSE demo containing the starter.fps port I did a few days ago and everything needed to run it (.cs files, editors etc).
Edit: a new version (1.3) can now be downloaded Here (23MB) Let me know if you have any problems.
(if you get a "missing directx dll" error message, you can download the file from "here")
v1.2 is ready for download, visit my new .plan for more details and a download link.
Post any problems, comments or suggestions here or on my .plan.

Thanks
-Joseph

I'm running a ATI 9200 Radeon Mobility, and I don't get and water sparklies, but the water does show up a dark blue, everything else looks great though.

I changed the color of water and stuff, it works fairly well.
And a nice friendly suggestion for the GG guys.
Make a upgrade pack for tge so we can get the water in tge , some of us come
pretty far and cant convert to tse.
If this is possible it will lift our games to a new level.
Only some thoughts !

This is cool, I can't wait to get TSE. I was playing around with the demo and raised the water up high. It also reflects things below it. Now this maybe old news but still cool.

You can also copy the terrain and rotate it... useful for making caves ;)

Honestly though, its no one's fault but my own :P My computer is finally beginning to show its age (in spite of HalfLife 2 running on high settings).
EDIT: But of course, TSE's water is a few steps above HL2's :P

Well yeah, graphical errors in that the water appears pitch black unless no DIF objects are on screen (haven't tested with dts) and when it does appear the reflections look god awful :PHonestly though, its no one's fault but my own :P My computer is finally beginning to show its age (in spite of HalfLife 2 running on high settings).

Orc Ice Skating anyone?

Also the water is like ice when you take out all the movement. Orc Ice Skating anyone?

If the instructions for converting Terragen into TSE are included in TSE, that's all I need to know. Just waiting to hear back from Dave before closing the sale. :)
12 hours? Holy moo! 12 hours!?!?

In any event, it certainly looks smooth.

Looking good Joseph!

Not sure if I went a bit over the top on the bump mapping though... I'm still playing around with it.

Looks OK to me. It's a demo, so it's better if they are a bit too much rather than too little.

I haven't gotten a detail texture working in my TSE codebase either. I haven't put any work into fixing that, but still. It's not a problem specific to Joseph's uber demo.

All you have to do is hack up the shader to use a detail texture, and you're set. You'll notice that Atlas has two detail textures. :P
