Why is my model Translucent?

by Andy Schatz · in Artist Corner · 08/14/2005 (9:51 am) · 4 replies

My team uses both Max and Maya, but after the last time a vulture model was exported from Maya, it appears partially transparent in ShowTool and the game. The last time it was exported was by my animator, and he had modified the rig a little and had exported a number of animations as well.

From my modeler:
Quote:I have no idea what the problem with the vulture is. I spent awhile looking at it...and I don't know. I do believe the material should be Lambert instead of blinn...but that alone wouldn't do it.

Has anyone encountered this before? COuld someone offer some knowledge?

Thanks,
Andy

Andy

The last time this happened to me, the normals needed reversing in Maya before export.

Thanks David, I'll have my artist give it a shot.

Another thing you might look into is unlinking your material's transparency values from the texture's alpha channel. If your artist is using the alpha channel for environment mapping like we were you can get some strange looking models in-game...

Cutting the alpha fixed that for me... and the normals are fine. However, i NEED the alpha. Is there something I am missing?
