Removes from the Tribes 2 engine

I couldnt think of a better forum to put this, i think it's ok here. I'm not really asking what has been removed, more... why? Like for instance, what's the reason of removing jet packs that can be disabled?

Basically, I believe it said that all Tribes 2 specific code or something similar, had to be removed. This would be skiing, jet packs, etc. Of course, there are a large amount of community resources that basically replace these, possibly even being better than the original implementation.
I repeat, this is not something I know for certain, but I believe this was something said before.

I'm not the best source of information from this, but I believe it was part of the conditions in the contract giving GarageGames that rights to the engine.Basically, I believe it said that all Tribes 2 specific code or something similar, had to be removed.
