Good Bug/Task software?

Just looking for a good FREE bug/task setup. Tried Bugzilla, didn't really work for what I wanted it for.

If I was going to buy one, I would probably buy TestTrack Pro because that's the one I have experience with and I like it plenty. It's also VERY customizable.

Unfortunately that much money for the 3 of us to have a license until March for a school project doesn't seem reasonable. Thanks for the tip though. If I was going to buy one, I would probably buy TestTrack Pro because that's the one I have experience with and I like it plenty. It's also VERY customizable.

We use bugzilla extensively at work. What is it that you need that it doesn't provide?Gary (-;

Working-ness. I have a very basic understanding of Linux and I just can't maintain it. If I didn't have to run my OWN server for 'zilla I would be ok with it.

It's easy to make it run on windows, and IME it's the best free bug tracker out there.
Or just install a linux box; it's trivial nowadays!

Part of the problem now is that I forgot my admin login info for Bugzilla itself. Maybe there is a way to salvage this info or change it with the root user. If there is, I might as well do it, because I have Bugzilla working. The salvage password function on my bugzilla won't work. Perhaps I have an issue with SMTP settings or something.
Are there any other good free ones out there? Web-based or not?

I have a box on RedHat 9 and its just a waste of time maintaining the stupid server, I don't have time for it. And from that link "Making Bugzilla work on Windows is more difficult than making it work on Unix".Part of the problem now is that I forgot my admin login info for Bugzilla itself. We have a 3 man team and just started using the free bug tracker at www.elementool.com. It's not super spectacular but it works, it's already set up for you, and it's free. *shrug*

I setup and maintain a bugzilla server at our offices and only took a few hours to setup on a win2k box, and I had never set it up before.

Doesn't really matter. The guy has no time for it, I understand him perfectly. Coping with a new O/S as well as trying to make games is hard enough as it is. I've tried it, and it's awful if you don't have enough time.

I hear some good things about microsoft's new Visual Studio Team Center, or whatever it's called. It's not going to be released retail until November (along with Visual Studio 2005) but you can get a free beta now.

Setup is pretty easy, it's a PHP/MySQL based tool with just some basic
config file configuration necessary (db info/setup)

I'm a big fan of mantis. It has a simple enough interface that it actually gets used. Setup is pretty easy, it's a PHP/MySQL based tool with just some basic

Using an excel file in our subversion repository - only difficulty has been not being able to "lock" the file while one person is using it (to prevent conflicts). Looks like the newest subversion allows this though. Mantis has emailing - can't tell if there are other compelling features in Mantis.

Take a look at basecamp. With a little creativity you can get it to do what you want.

We are using Basecamp. It's very simple, very fast, and provides a very well-done RSS feed with a simple interface that even my artists like to use. I had a feeling that using Bugzilla, I would be the only one ever interested in logging a bug or task with all the fields.Take a look at basecamp. I tried Bugzilla briefly, but for me it had too many features I definitely don't use, cluttering up the interface, and it was too much focused on a different type of project than mine. Now I'm using Flyspray (http://flyspray.rocks.cc/) and I quite like it. Nice, simple, and it seems to have all the basics. (Well, I'm always missing some things I want to use, but I didn't find those in Bugzilla either.)

We are also using Mantis. I can recommend it and I can vouch that it is very easy to setup.

I also use basecamp (the free version, which is limited to 1 project) .. it is awesome.. I've been wanting to make a clone of this site for ages. THe interface is just so intuitive and the AJAX integration is unrivaled. It's fun to learn a lot from seeing the source code too.
