UK Game in a Day Live Event - Any Interest?

Hi guys,

We were talking on IRC about the possibility of a live game in a day event in the UK. I was wondering if there would be enough people interested to warrant the effort to organise it, so I figured I'd post here and see.

The general idea would be that we rent somewhere to hold it, unless someone has a house or something with enough space. The event itself would be on a weekend as usual, but probably starting friday evening to give people time to set up and get acquainted. The actual GID would be saturday through to sunday lunchtime/afternoon. People would probably have to bring their own computer or laptop. Network will be WiFi and possibly 10/100baseT depending on how many switches/hubs and how much cable we can lay our hands on. As far as dates go, it will probably be after IGC sometime.

The snag is that getting somewhere to hold it will cost money. There is also things like tea, food, alcohol, tea, accomodation and tea to worry about. This means that in all likelihood there will be an entrance fee. How much that will be is impossible to say at the moment, but obviously we will try and keep it as low as possible.

If you're interested, please reply to this thread and let us know. Your location and a rough idea of what you would be willing to pay would be useful too, so that we can take that into consideration when looking for venues.

Given the right venue and enough people, I think a live GID could be really good fun. Also it would be nice to meet a lot of the GID regulars :)

For those of us unable to goto england, (if you do host it), how about a webcast?

Depending on location and cost I'd come :)

NO problem for this - As it stands I could get some rooms and places in the University of Leeds, which has a direct connection to London (a train every 30 min), and we've got experience with Torque, so GDS Leeds would be more than happy to get this going.

Les,

Last time we did something like this, we set up a couple of web cams. That's probably the extent that we could do anything resembling a web cast.

Toby,

Thanks for the offer, I will certainly keep that in mind.

I am still recovering from IGC and am really busy right now, so I probably wont be giving this much thought for at least the next month. I am aiming for doing the live GID during the summer, so there is at least a reasonable amount of time to get it organised.
