Minions of Mirth(tm) - "Truly Open Alpha"
Minions of Mirth(tm) is a massively single player, multiplayer, 3d MUD, Persistent World RPG, by Prairie Games.
We are currently in alpha testing on OSX and Windows and are extending an invitation to be a part of the game's creation.
You can DOWNLOAD the alpha test simply by registering on our forums: REGISTER

3 AM is nothing for Josh. I've been an alpha tester for a couple months now. I usually get up at 4:30 am and play a bit before work... Josh is usually just heading to bed after posting a new build :)

Ive been in the alpha test for Minions of Mirth for about a month now, and this is simple the best and most impressive game I have seen in a long time. Even though its in alpha, it is more stable and more polished then most betas and finished games I have played. I haven't been this excited for a game in a long, long time. Everyone needs to join us in the alpha!

+ Added new big cat model. Also, tigers in Anidaen Forest and arctic cats in Frostbite! Watch our for Khur in Mount Zharim!

+ Fixed multiple corpse looting bug
+ Increased ambient lighting of terrain
+ Default visibility is now 70%
+ Added special stamina and mana code to spell effects to make "booster" spells work
+ Adjusted World Server announcing code

We added a pretty major feature last night, you can chat, from SINGLE PLAYER, on the Global Chat Server!!! Of course it's optional... I really think it'll help get people introduced to the game and make friends faster :)7-6-05

How's the Linux native port of MoM? I'm stuck on an 8Gb drive running Linux right now, as my 200Gb drive is heading back with an RMA. :( And it's been too hot to sit at my PC here, so I've not had the time or the energy to test. :( :(

+ Spells now increase in potency for 10 levels after getting them, up to a 25% bonus!
+ Damage Shields (check out Druid's Bristle Blanket line of spells)
+ Members of the Magi Archetype (Revealer, Wizard, Necromancer) can now learn the "Spell Critical" skill from Frizzle Fry at level 10. Spell Criticals intensify the effects of harmful spells by 2x - 4x depending on skill level!
+ Revealers now get a "Focus" line of spells, these spells significantly increase Mana regeneration
+ Monks now gain the "Stone Skin" skill at level 5. This skill will give up to +50 physical resistance based on skill
+ Drakken now have a -25 cold resistance penalty
+ Ogres get a +10 racial resistance to Disease
+ Harmonic Kimono now adds +25 to electrical resistance
+ New Revealer Outfit, check out Olamian Crondan
+ Added black panther to Jakreth Jungle.
+ Updated cat animations.
+ Added new mob descriptions, submitted by Rev-O.

It's pretty hard to add much to the game concept and feature list detailed above. MoM isn't just WoW upside down (hmm...), even in it's current alpha state, it's more stable and playable than many high-budget, commercial MMORPG betas and probably even some final releases.
The game combines all the best features of RPG and MMO gaming and lets you play it your way: online in a massive persistent world, online on your own private server or offline single player. But wait, there's more...The game is also designed to allow extensive user modifications, including the creation of user-made zones, quests and almost anything you can imagine. In a lot of ways, this is the game I've had in the back of my head for a long time, but fully realized.
As far as I know, the combined features of MoM have yet to be seen in any title from a major publisher. Honestly, I think the big guys would probably be afraid of doing something like this and giving their customers so much control over how they play.
As far as gameplay, I'll just say that I'm constantly torn between playing (er..."testing") and working on designing new content. They're both too much fun.

Finally, if you're an independent developer planning your own MMOG, I think Prairie Games will be making their great framework and tools for a TGE-based MMOG available for licensing.
