Paths...As In Shapes and Cameras...

I'm having a lil difficulty grasping the concept... could someone explain, like you would to a 5 year old...

what i'm looking at is implementing a path that an abject (ai bot) would follow...

how is something like that impelemented... the basics... what type of geometry would you use (if any)...

and, would this thing be movable, and would it move the bots 'attached' to it as well...
