Requirements to develop on TSE

I am very interested in the TSE, and I think it will be all but essential for my Space combat game when I get around to starting it, ships hulls and shields will need to glow, etc.
However I am currently using a Geforce FX 5950 with an AMD FX-53, and from what ive read the FX series runs version 2.0 shaders poorly? I have downloaded all the TSE demos and they seem fine, except that the camera seems to be a littl choppy. I think thats just the camera view though, since the average framerate is around 40. Low enough, but bearable. Demos run perfectly in free camera view, even when im right in front of the Orc, or the other shader effects.
What I want to know is, will my current gfx hardware let me develop games on TSE? Or do I absolutely need a 6 series card? If I can develop on TSE with my current rig, im buying it tonight, because I might as well get stuck in a fast as possible, it looks like a lot of fun.
Also, will the DTS shapes have a limit of 9 collision meshes like in TGE 1.3? Or will it be like on the update, the 1.4?
Thanks

TSE is still in EA, so optimizations have not been a primary focus. That said there are many developers who are using FX series video cards (and lesser) with no problems. I am one of them. I have a FX5900xt and have NO problems running and/or developing on that hardware running @ps2.0... The GForceFX problems I have heard about are FX5200 (maybe 5700 too.. im not sure) and most of the GO series. TSE is entering MS3 where brian and company will be cleaning up alot of the bugs and addressing some performance issues(IIRC). The camera issue you mentioned is one of the things I know they are working on, there is a thread or 2 on the private forums discussing this. But I can tell you from personal experience that and FX59xx card is fine for TSE development.
So bust out your credit card and get to purchasing.. :)

forceware 77.50 beta drivers. My struggling 40 FPS is now a rock solid 120 +!!!! Thats amazing isnt it? I havent tried the other demos yet, but I think this should be made common knowledge for thsoe people with performance problems, these betas could help a lot.

Ok just an edit to say that it seems to be just the car demo that they imporve the FPS on, I have *no* idea why. The other demos are unchanged, aprox 40 for the dojo, lower for the other one.

So, you do not absolutely need a Geforce 6xxx, although I would recommend it ( I use 6600 GT).
