Batman Begins is worth seeing

by backtracking · in General Discussion · 06/14/2005 (10:36 pm) · 52 replies

Having been "treated" by EA last year to see Catwoman early, I didn't have high hope for Batman seeing it tonight at 6:30p.

Boy, was I wrong. This is the darkest Batman ever, and it makes it easier to understand the man and the batman.

Very good beginning to jump-start the franchise. The cast, story, everything came together really, really well.

Scale of 1-10 (10 best), I give Batman Begins a strong 8.5. Better then Batman and Batman Returns. I don't count the other two, other then for cheesy laughs.

I just came back from watching it again! Even better the second time! I really liked Keaton, but Bale is now top Batman in my book. I love the way he growled out his interogation of... well, I better not say anything more. THAT moment right there won me over to Bale's Batman. After seeing it a second time, I can't even consider Keaton, Clooney or Kilmer as Batman's anymore. And Nolan can direct every Batman from now on cause as a fan of Batman since I was a kid, he nailed Batman perfect. Him and Goyer, the writer. They got Batman just right.

Bale was ok... much better than Clooney and ... umm... who else played Batman... oh... Kilmer... hah. Keaton's is still my favorite.

Yes I agree with all those who claim that B:B is worth seeing. it brought back credibility to the batman franchise. Now, as to my favorite batman, it would be Keaton, with Bale as my second favorite. Clooney wouldn't even count, and Kilmer, well he was alright.

If they were to continue with the batman movies, I would like to see The Spook as a villain, and maybe Clayface, or Crock. and more other thing, keep the villains down to one. Yes, this one had two, or three (was Falcone an major comic villain)

As for other heroes in the DC universe, i would like to see Hawkman, Atom, Green Lantern, and Aquaman. (It was an issue of Aquaman that was the very first comic i ever bought way back in 1968).

I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed Batman last night. The film just rocked. I can see how die-hard fans may view it.. but Damn, Bruce Wayne is Rock 'Ard ... and Dark lookin' How Batman should be.

I was a little worried about the casting of Michael Caine as Alfred, "My Name.. is Alfred.... Not a lot of people know that!... Call me Alfie" But he delivers a cracking performance. I was waiting for the "Hang on... I've got an idea" line.. but thankfully they didn't cop out, he was brilliant.

I've always liked Christian Bale, he may not get the best movies all the time, but he puts everything into them. Top Bloke.

Best Batman so far.

Tim Burtons Batman films were completely different films in my book... the rest were utter shite.

Ok, now that I've seen it, I must say... it Batman Begins rocks. It's awesome, I were really really impressed. I've always liked Cristopher Nolan, but his movies were more in the indie line. I was wondering how something big as this would work. And it worked really well.

It looks like the darkest Batman ever, it has much more elements from the comic Batman: Year One than what I thought, and for me, Chris Bale is the best Batman ever.

After seeing the trailer and the ugly hummer pre-batmobile, I didn't have high hopes for this film.

after seeing the movie though, all I can say is best... batman... ever!

The batmobile is the one designed by Frank Miller for Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (aka Batman: Dark Knight). Heres a pic:

Yup... i was totally impressed...

finally...

i mean, the Keaton Bat was pretty good...
but this one just seems to do it right...

the dark knight... the creature in the shadows...
half man, half vengence,
unseen... unstoppable...

Big Fun...

Batman Begins was fantastic. Michael Caine was brilliant as Alfred, and that's really how I've always thought of Alfred. A man subservient to his boss, but with a bloody backbone. Christian Bale did a great job of Wayne/Batman, and I enjoyed the little tributes to Burton's Batman ("What are you?!" "I'm Batman"). I liked that Liam Neeson played the same role he's done before, only... turned on it's head. And Morgan Freeman was lovely as Fox. I have to say, this has definitely restored my faith in superhero movies (though X-Men 3 is probably going to shatter said faith once again).

Huh, what are you talking about? I've seen all the Batman films, and this is the first one that I've seen Liam Neeson in.
I think I'm a big movie fan, and every now and then someone may slip through the cracks. but another departure for this film is that the didn't get an A-list actor to play the major villian roles.
Sure Liam Neeson is known for Schindler's List and Darkman, but can he claim A-lisitng. I didn't even know who Christiam Bale was until I read some of your posts, but who remembers American Psycho. (Sort of like Michael Keaton, eh. Yeah I saw Night Shift, but how many other people did. And could an up - and - coming comedian handle a dark role like the Batman?

And who was the actor that played the ScareCrow? huh! huh!

@Amanda - he was refering to Liam Neeson's mentor role in Star Wars. And all of these actors in the movie are A-List actors from... other countries... except the chick, she just dates an A-List actor. :)

I figured I would have infuriated someone with that last post! So which Star Wars movie was neeson in? And who played the scarecrow. I didn't recognize him?

@Amanda - not mad at all. that's why I put the :) Neeson was in Episode 1. The scarecrow was in 28 Days Later. Most of the Batman cast has or has been nominated for Academy Awards. Some multiple times both nominated and recieved.

I saw it last night. It blows every previous batman away!

- The CGI is not obvious (unlike spiderman).
- Stellar acting all around
- Batman doesn't do everything by himself, he asks for help and others help with the "investigation" as well as the "apprehention" of the baddies
- They also do a great job of telling how he became batman, something that was never done before
- The villans were human
- Batman gets his butt kicked and even when he wins they show him with bruises the next day
- They even make the batmobile more 'real life' and place a price tag on the bat suit
- It is about the man, not the gadgets,
- a great character driven movie

My dissappointments:

- Katie Holmes doesn't get nekkid. :P Just kidding, I'll just wait for the Tom/Kate sex movie that will get stolen from their house.

- No Adam West camio with and a "Bat Watosie" dance sequence. :D

I will see it again and own it on DVD.
