#2 Or the manual (and the fat tutorial book) that comes with the software.
Unless you have any more specific questions there's really not that much any of us can do to help.

#4 Hey Joe. For character stuff I recommend Ben Mathis' site. Hes got some really great video tutorials on the subject.

#5 I've used 3DBuzz for learning 3D Studio Max. The tutorials were made on 3DS Max 4, but I use Max 6 and I see little differences.
