Must I put bones into the model or can I assign the skin envelopes to the biped objects (Bip01 L Hand, Bip01 L Finger0, etc.)
In other words, does the skin modifier see the biped objects as bones without me having to add bones to the mesh?
Thanks.

So, just apply the skin modifier, add the Biped parts to the skinlist, and you should be good to go. Don't add the footsteps to the skinlist as they will prevent the shape form exporting.

The skin modifier will see any object you put into the skinlist as a bone. It tends to have problems with Biped footsteps, spacewarps, and particle systems being recognized as bone objects. So, just apply the skin modifier, add the Biped parts to the skinlist, and you should be good to go. Don't add the footsteps to the skinlist as they will prevent the shape form exporting.

My question is this: do I have to assign bones like they did or can I just create a skin modifier then link that to the biped and skip the bones step?
