Any good games based on movies?

by Anton Bursch · in General Discussion · 06/06/2005 (8:23 am) · 42 replies

Are there any good or even great games based on movies? I own Wolverine's Revenge as a guilty pleasure. I played the first Spiderman movie game and it was decent fun for a while. I liked Goldeneye and the new Sean Connery James Bond game looks interesting if only because it has Sean Connery in it. What other movie games were there worth mentioning?

EDIT: I loved Goldeneye when it came out. Especially playing 4 player with a screen projector on the living room wall with friends:bliss.

EDIT: The purpose of this post beyond finding out what people in this community think are good or bad games based on movies, is to simply start a friendly neutral thread that anyone should be able to post to without worry of being flamed. I wanted to do this because I want to help promote communication in the GG community and because I like to hear people's opinions. :)

I design and direct games for Somatic Vision. We primarily make games for use with biofeedback, but our latest game, Tropical Heat, a jet ski racing game, is for regular gamers and is available on PC/Mac and will be available on ipad and iphone soon.

Heres one for the ancients amongst you, not so much a movie as a series. Thunderbirds on the zx specturm. It was a puzzle game that had you trying to rescue people by manouvering your way through a 2d maze. Thing was that each of the thunderbird crafts had a different skill and different size so you had to figuire out which crafts to use and how.
I really loved that game, a bargain for a

I just had horrid memories of loading a thirty minute tape, flipping it over, loading ten more minutes and then having Zaxxon crash.

@Joshua - thank you for the link to the Hitchhikers Game. I am a seriously hardcore Hickhikers fan and I can't wait to play!

The Hitchhikers text adventure was definately one of my favorites growing up, along side Zork and Planetfall.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (I or II) - Although, they aren't based on the movies so much as based on the franchise in general. Contrary to many perceptions, these are RPG's, not fast action games.

Now that I think about it, there have been a number of Star Wars space shooters that were darn good- X-Wing, etc. I also liked the original arcade Star Wars arcade machine.
TRON, the original arcade version, had good gameplay, but felt kind of disjoint.

@Andrew: That reminds me of the other cool tron-based game: Discs of Tron. Spiffy.

Hey dont forget about the game : "SpongeBob: The Movie" ... which is obviously based on a movie. Haven't played it, but anything SpongeBob has got to rock!

@chris: That is precisely the reason crappy "based on The Movie" games get made.

Doom will soon be a movie based on a game. It has the Rock and Borimir/bad spy guy from Bourne Supremacy.

I heard about the halo movie also, i don't have good feelings about it. If bunjie was doing it and it was all CG i'd probly feel different though.

P.S. I remember hearing that someone wanted to make a Metroid movie.

MS were pushing Halo on several studio's but their terms were pretty excessive in my opinion. .

Pasted below:

A quick little Halo the movie update. A source shot me the details on what exactly Microsoft is asking from the studios to turn their hit game into a crap movie. No wonder no one is biting!

The demands include $10 million upfront with a $75 million below-the-line budget. (Below the line costs include pretty much everything outside of the actors and other key people.) Microsoft is also asking for 15 percent of the gross and that the movie be in production by September.

To be honest though, Jalo was good in 2001. Today it doesn't really spark much interest for me, particularly after Halo 2 which didn't feel like it advanced the franchise much. To me it felt like I was playing the same game with slightly better shaders, but worse Camera FOV. I never finished it though, lost interest about 2/3 of the way through
