Basic Platformer Tips?

I am working on a basic platformer for my first game. The goal is to have the player pick up objects around the map and jump up to a goal area.


So goal #1: movement! I need to let my player jump. Is the best way to do this using the physics engine, or is there a better way? Does anyone have an example?

What happend to the Platformer Framework that somebody once announced?
