Thinking of buying TGE as well...

by Alex Parker · in Torque Game Builder · 04/30/2005 (9:45 pm) · 7 replies

Would I gain any extra helpful documentation that will help me learn T2D's scripting better if I purchase the TGE as well? Most people around here seem to take for granted the use of HTTPObjects, etc, and I have no idea other than a passing notion of how they work and what they're supposed to do. Since this is an EA of T2D I understand documentation will come later, but I want results now, so will purchasing TGE get me any extra and relevant documentation?

Cheers

TGE has a huge ammount of resources that have built up over the years, along with forum posts... plus its an amazing engine, nevertheless for $100.

So the resources I would be able to access would be relevant to T2D?

With the purchase of TGE, you get complete access to the entire source of the engine just as you do with T2D. Since the engine source is in C++ and as Matthew pointed out, GG has provided a complete collection of documentation specific to TGE's engine. Some portions of this documentation do have relevance to T2D since afterall T2D sits on top of it, but most of it is confined to to the workings of TGE itself.

Stay tuned for more info in the private T2D forums and especially for TDN, the much anticipated Torque Developer Network which promises to provide such information and more for T2D community members such as yourself in the very near future!:)

As Gabor said, if the only reason you want to purchase TGE is for the documentation, then just be patient a little longer--while I hate to talk you out of purchasing it or anything, the documentation is on the way, once the Torque Developer Network is ready!

Now, there are very many great reasons to buy TGE, so if documentation isn't your -only- reason, then by all means jump in!

Gabor and Stephen put it perfectly...

if you are just doing it for the documentation then wait for TDN.

Though TGE is an amazing engine for the price, well worth the money and investment, especially since you can overlap T2D over TGE :)
