Three Musketeers

Well I did it and now I know how everyone who works in a GID feels.

I started this game last night at 9:00 pm and by 3:00 am I was just about done with the core of it. Unable to go on I decided to go to sleep but, not without posting a .plan about my fun times. After I woke up this morning I went straight back to work on the project. For some reason I couldn't stop thinking about it and what to do next. So I kept plugging away untill a little after 8:30 pm tonight and this is where it stands now. The game does work although the images for who won do not always pop up correctly but, work most of the time, at least from my tests.

So here are some images.

The things that gave me the most trouble were getting the turns to work properly and getting the gui to switch to a game screen instead of playing on the main menu. The turns work now but, I gave up on the gui problem. Basically I could switch the gui fine but the sprites were attaching themselves to the main menu somehow (if this makes sense).

I still want to add ai, 3 and 4 player versions based on those we developed in class, and full artwork. But for now here is the game I don't think I want to work on it for about a week (overloaded my brain a bit too much today).

I believe that is the proper way to setup a project for release but I'm only letting it out in the private forums first to make sure.

So instructions.
Musketeers are the red ships and cannot move into blank squares. Their goal is to defeat all of the cardinal's men.

The Cardinal's men are the green ships and can only move into blank spaces. Their goal is to have at least one survive and leave the musketeers without any moves.

All units can only move horizontal and vertical and only one space at a time.

Well thats about it for now. Let me know what you think.

Cool stuff! It took me a minute to figure it out (even with instructions, hehe). It's a cool game. Is it based on another game? The particle effect you made is nice. Though, it isn't very fitting :). I like the game though.

Decided to look up some info on the game. We did this about a year ago in my concept development class and I guess I got a little bit ahead of my self and did the rules at least partially for the 3 player variant. The original rules were that the musketeers won if they could not move and the cardinal's men won if they got the musketeers into the same row or column. So heres a big OPPS on my part. The game can still function as is but it is closer to the three person variant that we made than the original. Here you can find a GDC writeup about the exercise which is a powerpoint file converted by goggle so you will need to to crtl-a to select everything in order to read it . I'm not sure the origin of the original game but it is a good example to use for the adaptation of games in general.

Oh and the particle effect is another one of those place holder things it is a standard one that comes with t2d and has just had the colors altered slightly.
