How long did you take reading it?

Hi, I have a question for everyone here who has read 3dgpaio, how long did it take you to read through? I read alot of posts in the forums here about people who went through it in a day, 2 days, a couple days even... Did you also type out all the code and understand it all? I'm not putting the book down at all here, I am a slow reader, and I dont know any coding of any sort (html aside, which really isnt code) but its taking me along time to work my way through this, and I am not really understanding the coding Im typing out. Granted Im really only interested in the art sections, textures, terrain, animation, ect... But I would like to be well rounded. It just seems a little... whats the word.. I dont know, when people have gone through it in 2 days.. So, how long did you take, what did you get out of it, did you type out all the code?

-Thanks

I read different parts of the book at different times instead of reading it in a linear fasion. Most of the stuff I already knew and I just kind of used it to get a macro view of Torque.

I read it mostly straight through, though I did skip around a tad in the middle. Overall, about 3 weeks to work through it. I didn't type out all the code in the book, but I instead tried to make something else with what I had just learned about.

I'm reading it.
Donttype the code just read it, the errorfree code is on the disc.
Im estimating it will take me 2 months(im a MAJOR slacker)

Ive skipped around A-LOT, that way i look forward to getting to the next chapter.

What Daniel said about macking something from what you learned is exactly what you should do(i should start doing that).

Every once in a while i re-read a chapter. So I guess I am still reading it (purchased the book before 5 or 6 months)

I take it as a reference , so I pulled it off the shelf every now and then, and it's really good.

I worked through it in about 3 weeks. First time.. Now going through it again and as i go i am putting in my own comments in the code. I bought the book /cd but also found an acrobat version of the book on the net, which i used to cut and paste code from.. saved a lot of wasted time on typos.. that seems to have brought a lot of ppl unstuck.

I'm using it as a reference... and the code examples as a basis for my own projects...
it's open, right next to me now...

i hope that Ken decides to write a followup for TGE1.4 and TSE... i'll preorder the EA copies of both :)

You mean like this one. This will be a more in depth book by this write up.

I read it in a weekend and now use it as a reference. Though note that I just read it, I didn't try the examples.

Also they are going to release "Essential Guide to Torque" by Edward Maurina soon. That is supposed to be more related to 1.4. More info about it on his plan and on his website.

edit: fixed link.

I'm still reading it, and I decided to go over some C++ programming info and issues for personal reasons, then I should be back in full swing, but the book is great and covers alot , the TGE really has alot to offer more than people know, for most gamers it's always the game artwork that draws the attention, for us programmers and others I give a hats of for the work that's put into any project, but let's play let's show what indie gamers are all about, cheers!! :D!!
