At Last!! Minions of Mirth Has done it!!!

by Johnny Hill · in General Discussion · 04/09/2005 (9:54 pm) · 98 replies

I have been exploring Minions of Mirth world and I must say its very very good. This is torque used like I imagined from the beginning :)

Now like the newb I was I didnt read anything at first. I didnt even try single player world but instead jumped straight into the alpha world. And I was grinning from ear to ear. :)

Josh was on and took me on a tour of the place. It took me a min but I manage to catch on to the controls and was checking out the local city, watching Josh demonstrate the realistic effects like weather rain ice, spell effects in the world and on some of the people heh.

I know some on GG play WOW but imagine the same functionality done by a smaller team using torque, Iam not talking graphically I mean functionality was dead-on smooth. Similiar but different still.

We went to the mountain zone to check out the dwarven ruins and Killed some bears and a old great bear. I forgot the bear name. :)

The goblins had invaded the ruins so they were everywhere. The interiors were dark and creepy like most dungeons. I like the way the doors glow eerily, but they will only open if you possess the key.

Did I mention this was made using Torque LOL :)

@Cholly: *smile*

@Drew: We're still undecided as to the number of testers to have in the Open Alpha Test. Go ahead and send an email to lara at prairiegames.com requesting that you be added to the list. We'll flag your name to make sure you get into the alpha.

@Tim: I am really glad you like it. Your Tim Aste: Content Packs are an absolute boon. BTW, I've put up a new baseline, or the old baseline can be updated. In either case, there's now a Patcher.exe and no reason to install TortoiseSVN for updates :)

It's alive!!! I just created a character on your world and logged in...

It feels weird to not be an Immortal in a MoM World :)

Mwhaha, your in King BoB's world now *evil grin*... lol major props to your system... I've run EQ Emu, Ultima Online emulation servers, as well as other similar systems and this has definately got to be the easiest and best of them... I love that dynamic zone loading... tested it once and closed my zoneserver down, when connecting it dynamically loaded it :)

Now I just need to squeeze some more time in to play the game! Though so far my little taste just feels like EQ but 100x better...

@Matthew: I've noticed your world is up quite a bit.. cool :) Things will start heating up pretty soon!

Single Player, Multiplayer, and the Patcher are all up on OSX and available for testing.

As always, interested alpha testers should contact lara@prairiegames.com ... It would be a good idea to mention if you are planning to test on OSX.

Current testers with an OSX box, please contact me for details.

Right now my pc isn't accepting the new 108mbs wireless card too well... otherwise the server would be up nearly constantly... it was up for a good day and a half though so maybe my pc will stop being fussy lol :)

Here's a little production VIDEO of the 3d model system :)

The music is from the game's original score by Ronald van Deurzen

@Josh:

I know you're using Python in your game, but can you comment on what you're using it for? I'm a Python fan/user in my day-job as a UNIX SysAdmin.

Thanks,

Steve
