I haven't played in a while, but I remember my game doing the exact same thing. But when started via a mod (any will do) then you can join any game without limitations (unless, of course, you don't have the correct client side mod and/or map - but that's a different story).

#4 Had the same problem, said version was out of date but no updates were available. Had to download it instead of using my CD.

#5 Had a similar problem with the icremental patches for the Linux version. I found the Full patch at one of the game related file sites (gamespy or fileshack) and got it up to date.

I supect that the cause is different but you might want to search for a full patch and see what comes up.

#8 You can still download it for free at fileplanet, but you need to have a CD-key, so it doesn't even matter.

You'll still need a cd key that you can get from fileplanet (it's a little difficult - but possible).

EDIT: This is where you get the free CD Key. You'll need a fileplanet account (free) and you need to give a real email and varify it before they'll give you a key. But it can be done it less than an hour. I used to do it for other people, but stopped offering. If someone really wants me to, I can get a key for them (I've done it many time - I'm used to the horror that is fileplanet) but you will have to wait until I'm not as loaded with work. Could be in an hour, could be tomorrow.

I have try'd a lot, even setup a master server for tribes2. Bud you can't still not play online! Even gattered a
lot of CD-keys bud thats not working also. So a dead game?

Maybe we sould build a "tribes2" from the Torque Engine! Anyone try'd that?
I want to try that as soon I can buy the Torque Engine!

Unfortunatly Tribes 2 is owned by Vivendi/Sierra and you can't replicate the game as much as you can't replicate other games :/

Edit: There was a game made with TGE, Legends.. it was very Tribes'ish, check it out. I think it's listed in the news section and a interview there.

#19 VU intentionally makes it difficult to play T2 online. This is because their followup title Tribes Vengeance flopped like a 100ft tall stack of pancakes and they don't want to lose player to T2.

What Ryan "Gryphon" Snook said is correct. Edit the desktop shortcuts "Target" field to point to the Tribes2.exe and feed it the -online switch. Your target should look similar to this:

C:\Dynamix\Tribes2\GameData\Tribes2.exe -online
