Cheap but good method for recording FX?

Hello all I am looking for a good but economic method of recording gunshots for use in my next project. Which is to be a WWI FPS and while I own all of the standard rifles of that era I've never done any sound recording nor do I own any sound recording equipment.
I think it would really help bring the game to life to have autheentic sound FX.

I had good luck while in school using a mini-disc player with a mic hooked up to it. I recorded all the sound effects for my animations that way.

They are modified. They are exaggerated. They are made more cool. Entertainment industry makes us dream because it just not simulates reality but "makes it better" ;)
Practically you need a friend with sound engineering skills or who works in a recording studio because if you really want state of the art sounds you need an audio studio to do the job.
Ask in your area... also a small studio can help. There are tons around.

Hello Zen, the main problem is that a gun shot is not good when recorded "as it is". I mean... all the sounds we hear when we see the best movies at theatre are not just recorded. They are modified. They are exaggerated. They are made more cool. Entertainment industry makes us dream because it just not simulates reality but "makes it better" ;)
