[RPG-ish]Sprites for the art deprived =)

For those of you (like me) who couldn't make a decent sprite if your life depended on it, I found this site to be very helpful.

You simply choose one of the three options from this section of the website to get started (that I high-lighted with fusha -- yes fusha =).

It's a simple point-and-click interface that spits out a full ImageMap created to your specifications! The choices are rather limiting, but they work great as placeholder art. =)

Kinda cool! I'm still trying to get the hang of sprite art, and this is pretty educational. :)

Just a note, they work fine as placeholder art, but it's illegal to sell games you make using Charas-generated art (as far as I know).

Really? Do you have a link? Because I was under the impression that it was free as long as you gave some credit (although I haven't foud any proof of my theory =P) since everything at Charas is user-made and uploaded.

EDIT: I've been searching their site, and I have to say, if they even do provide a license for their stuff, they hide it very well. Can't find anything about legal use of their sprites. >.<

I heard it on a forum, in a FAQ. It could be wrong, you could email someone in charge of the site and get the real info.

Wow- this charas thing is interesting. People rip/copy/emulate artwork, or submit original work, then put it into charas which blends and mashes it all up. So it's an amalgam

Here is one forum poster's summary of it
Quote:The thing with Charas is that since so many people are submitting resources, it is impractial to give credit to *each* person. You would have to go through every charas resource you have used, figure out who make this body or who made that shirt or hair or background item. I much prefer to credit Charas for the works I make here. After all, Charas exists to benefit the community as a whole, not the individual artists that sumbit here.

Sometimes you read stuff like "pleeze give lots of cr3dit!!!" on a resource.

Cool! Course I agree with the OP that this is mainly good for placeholder art
