Business structure of online game publication

Hi i was wondering if anyone had a gaming publication out there and what kind of business structure you have for it. Basically Im starting my own indie publication I'm also starting a game company. The game company i do plan to register with my state. I live in Illinois and we have a assumed name act. This basically means that unless the name of your business is the exact name of the owners you have to register your business name with the state. My quesiton though is, since I'm planning to use this indie mag to gather advertising revenue should I register it with my state? Has anyone out there had any experience with doing business online as a virtual company?
