Program for Importing .map Files?

by Thomas Scott · in General Discussion · 03/29/2005 (5:15 pm) · 10 replies

Does anyone know of a program that can load .map files, including textures and also export to common file formats like .3ds, .lwo, etc. I have looked at Deep Exploration, which does a great job of loading .map files and exporting them, but it does not support texturing.

Quark is free for commercial use. Radiant is not. But if you're not worried about that, it's an excellent tool.

Well I suppose hammer export them to DXF, and then once you get the scale ratio (do a search there is a resource on that) right you can tweak it in max.

Thanks. I'll give Quark and Radiant a try. I didn't realize these programs export to other formats. Hopefully it will export to something that MilkShape 3D can load.

Oh wait. I was looking at the reply not the original post. They don't export to different formats, though I do believe that Milkshape can load and save map files. map23DS will help you out greatly.

I tried the map23ds conveter, but no luck. It just says that it converted my file, but there is not .3ds output. Has anyone used this and know how to make it work?

I guess it can only export them. I thought it could also read them. I remember several topics a while back on getting maps to export correctly.

I did a cursory search on map conversion. Here's the map2dxf[/url] source.

@Thomas Scott
It's not in the directory your called it from? Strange. I'll have to test it on my laptop when I get home.

I talked to Matt about my problem with map23ds and he is looking at a map file that doesn't work for me. So far no answer on whether it worked on his machine or not.

It didn't work on the default map that Quark creates upon startup. Strange.
