Call For Assets

Hey guys,

GID11 is just around the corner (announcement soon) so we're finalising everything. In the process David Grace reminded me about the "get loads of assets together" thing. At which point I remembered that I had quite a few assets (from sprites to models) from previous GIDs laying around that ended up not being used, so I figured that others probably do too. Anyway, if you have any assets that you dont mind being used in a GID, please let me know.

There isnt enough time to get this setup for GID11, so this will probably end up being used for GID12 or 13. Please note that you must own all assets you submit and by submitting them you give permission for use in GID. I'll post later with instructions on where to upload them.

In the event a GID project ever evolves into a commercial venture, will there be some kind of blanket license for GID assets for use in projects? Or do they have to be replaced prior to any commercial release ( I guess that would be a license too)?

Tom, I think you should try to throw together some sort of assets repo for GID11, even if it's not that organized...
A temporary asset dump if you will :)
Why ? Well, it's the anniversary GID, you're going to make a lot of noise about it this week, lots of people will partake in the fun, but most important, that won't prevent you from hoarding all the artists !! ;)

Should be lots of fun :)

P.S : Stop hoarding the artists !! 8p

Jay,

What I was thinking was have 2 or 3 "licenses" when it goes live: Free for GID use only, Free for any non-commercial use, and free for commercial use. That's going to be down to the people who submit the assets, really. That said, considering the quality of most GID assets, you'd probably want to replace them anyway :)

It's something we can experiment with and see what works, I dont think there's going to be much of an issue just yet and permission can always be sought privately.

Nic,

I'll try, but I dont think it will be anything more then the bog standard apache auto generated file list. Oh, and I don't hoard artists, they just like working with me for some reason :)

I have the FTP site setup, details as follows:

FTP server: private.burntwasp.com port 21
Username: gid
Password: assets

This account is write only and directory listings are disabled.

Please format your assets as follows:

Zip all the files you want to upload. Add a text file to the zip containing your name, email address and any information you think a potential end user would need. You must own the rights for any assets you submit. Please also specify in the .txt the permissable uses of the assets, see above post for the 3 major categories. It would be useful if you could include the source files for the assets as well as an engine ready exported version. For example, for models, please include the .max and the .dts files.

If enough assets are submitted before GID11, I'll throw a temporary site up so they can be used for the next GID. The main aim, however, is to gather assets for GID12 and onwards.
