Reducing model complexity

Concerning 3D Studio max--say I have a model of a car that is far too complex for use in Torque, or any engine for that matter. Is there a way in 3DS Max to automatically reduce the complexity of the model, so that I can use it in-game?

You can try this i used it several times, but there,s always a trade off
in how the model looks

There is a multi-res modifier that is perfect for this. It will reduce the polys in the model (as much as you tell it) and retain the best shape possible.
