Mmorpg Starter Kit?
by Andy Simpson · in Technical Issues · 03/20/2005 (5:01 am) · 37 replies
I have heard from someone there might be a possible MMOG/MMORPG Starter kit?
Is this true?
I'd certainly pay for the starter kit (if its not too expensive:p).
I personally would love to see a MMOG/MMORPG starter kit because it'd make my life easier:p and many other peoples.
I'd love to see the following implemented in one;
- Networking code (Server & client)
- Master Server designed to support 1000users without eating up ram
- Slave servers designed to support up to 200-500 Users
- Server administration for GM's, spawn NPC's, kick/ban players,etc.
- Database examples/tutorials for MYSQL (Game keys, characters, weapons, etc.)
- Inventory system tutorial/examples.
- Presistant world guides, tutorials and codes.
- Live update system
Perhaps a MMORPG Demo? (where you can choose 1 char, 2-3 weapons from a shop, money, etc.)
Anyone else have opinions? Please post.

Check out Josh Ritter's "Minions of Mirth." It's not going to be a starter kit for getting down-and-dirty with Torque, but it is certainly designed to be something of a "MMORPG Construction Set" when it's released, with lots of mod-ability.

I would love something along these lines, Although Im more interested in a MMORPG-RTS I think its a whole new genre that could be amazing.

If I could find a MMO game that didn't suck after the first week, I'd be happy. Well, okay, I lasted two weeks in WoW before I got horribly bored, but still. That was a rarity.

Christopher, have you ever tried out Shattered Galaxy (www.shatteredgalaxy.com). It's an MMORTS that has been out for several years now, it has mostly been popular in Asia though. If your considering doing an MMORTS/RPG type hybrid I'd recommend at least taking a look at that, and how certain things have failed or suceeded for them. Be careful though the game can be oddly addicting, and there is a free trial.

RealmCrafter is a more mature project.

I had started to work on a MMO starter kit for TGE, but moving and other life "things" have gotten in the way .. that and my server dying again...

Can it be used for single player RPG's Josh? Or would I be better off scripting my own inventory and stuff. I'm asking so I can budget my time right for the project. Thanks.Nick

Oh man, where did this thread come from? Looks like it's nearly a month old, and I've never even seen it. Josh's post explains the answer to a question I just asked by creating my own thread, in licensing....www.garagegames.com/mg/forums/result.thread.php?qt=29720

For non-Torque indies out there, Omega Core is being developed as a complete MMORPG game creation suite. www.omegacore3d.com

Either you've got the wrong URL posted or there is no Omega Core

I always thought that the omegacore3d was the engine that Minions of Mirth was creating to make thier product and that they discontinued work on it as they found creating everything in torque to be a better option. I could be mistaken though.

Sorry about that.

No. Actually, just bad timing on my part. My domain is being switched over to a new host and I didn't get the pages moved over like I should have. I'll get everything back up this evening so you can check back by tomorrow and check it out then.Sorry about that.

Actually, you can view it at http://65.246.129.86/ until I get the domain transferred.

No, I can tell you without any doubts that they were not using Omega Core.

Hence why I said I could be mistaken ;-) gets confusing keeping track of all the different projects in the works.
