Truespace upgrade questions

by Vijay · in Torque Game Engine · 03/19/2005 (2:21 pm) · 5 replies

Hi,

I was wondering if any of the truespace gurus can help clarify a few questions I have.

1. Are there significant improvements from truespace 4.3 to the latest and greatest truespace 6.6? How do these improvements relate to game development?

2. Do the truespace plugins for Torque (mapping, modeling, etc.) require the truespace gamepak? Can they work with the plain truespace 6.6 version?

3. How complete is the feature set of current truespace plugins for torque? Is animation (dsqs) fully supported?

Any information is greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot for your time,
Vijay

I think they now have 'groups' or something like that. It is used in the gamespace exporter so that the exporter knows what the different parents are, etc.

Maybe it's something else though. I was kind of mad that I bought a lower version of truespace without the grouping features.

Anybody have any pointers?

For Torque you only need Gamespace. I think Truespace is overkill.

You can download Gamespace Light, or a demo of Truespace from Caligari's website. You can probably answer most of your questions by trying it out.

Regarding question 2, I understand that the Truespace plugins for Torque do not require the Gamepak. They do generally require Truespace 6.6.

If you check out caligari.com, under the "GDC specials", you'll see that they were offering trueSpace 6.6 + gamePak for $299... a pretty good deal. Now, the page mentions that this deal expired March 18th, but I believe that you may still be able to get this deal. I would, however, be sure to email them first before plunking the money down. :-)
