Publishing 3rd party Content Packs?

by Heath Rezabek · in Torque Game Engine · 03/15/2005 (4:20 pm) · 6 replies

Looking around at the forums, it seems like this'd be as good a place for this question as any..:

now that design tools such as the ShowTool, and soon Torque Constructor are coming into being..., are there any limitations on whether or not the more design-minded among us can publish, for sale [as we would sell a game], polished content optimized for use with Torque? i realize the market for this might well be small, but i was curious all the same.

i know several official GG content packs exist; how would one go about perhaps making a 3rd party Content Pack available for sale in collaboration with GG?

this is purely hypothetical... but i'm curious to hear any answers from GG folks!

If you have content that you would like GG to look at, get in contact with Josh Williams at . He's the 3rd Party Developer Director.

Our bar for content packs is going to be EXTREMELY high. We have no problem with people creating and selling content packs from their own site.

Understood; but it's good to at least know the path exists.

a thought: a 3rd party Content Pack that shipped as a generic content version for people trying to develop outside of Torque, but that also included links to GG and pointers to Torque, could end up helping bring frustrated developers / modders *to* Torque! :)

thanks for the feedback!

And make damn sure what you show is the best you can do. NOT something that is a work in progress.
Speaking from experience here.

What's the deal with the torque code itself and supplying it with content packs?

Obviously I could make a game and the torque exe is legal to sell as part of the game, but does the same apply for content packs?

For example there might be something in a content pack that needs a mod to the Torque code to work properly and to demonstrate it as part of the content pack, then the modified Torque exe would need to be included.

Also the source for that change would need to be included as well to make the content pack complete, so that the purchaser could implement the content in it's intended form.

Does this break any license policies?
