The FBX SDK allows software and hardware vendors to easily add support for the FBX format. The SDK is an easy-to-use C++ software development toolkit that provides conversion utilities allowing application and content vendors to transfer their existing commercial and demonstration content into the FBX format with a minimum of effort.
Compatible with all authoring tools
FBX allows all types of data to be packaged into one file format that can be used by most of today's 3D authoring software. With FBX, you don't have to worry about which software application the data came from, or how you are going to convert it. FBX acts as an interchange hub between most 3D software, regardless of software vendor or computer platform.
Alias, Softimage, Discreet, Eovia, Wings 3D, NewTek, are some of the applications already supporting FBX,
The FBX SDK was $3500 before.. now it is FREE! Could this help to make for an easier workflow/pipeline between Torque and programs like XSI, Maya,etc... Even help with letting people build their terrain/environemnts/maps in XSI or Maya etc.. then load it up directly into Torque? If Torque was going to support this now FREE AND POWERFUL converter?

I always seem to get goofy artifacts when I try passing complete data back and forth with fbx. Deep Exploration always seem to do a much better job of straight over conversion between formats.

EDIT: Note that it doesn't mean that it's not a worthwhile option for art departments within organizations to explore. It's an EXTREMELY valuable indie tool where contract artists using a wide variety of tools need a common format, even with consistency issues. At least it's more consistent than most of the previous standbys.
