Any development on Torque Source?

by PE Blair · in Torque Game Engine · 12/13/2001 (3:09 pm) · 5 replies

It appears that what was originally released and what you ended up paying for hasn't changed. From that I can only assume that any development, enhancements, etc to the original Torque Source is only being done by indies for their own games and nothing new being added to the original Torque source being made available to those who purchased it... Am I wrong on this? If so, what's new? And I'm talking about the source itself and not mission editors and other wholly separate projects.

Well the ingame editor is part of the same torque sdk, not different projects as you name them, but anyway, other things were changed, hardcoded paths were removed, projectile code was added, and lots more changes, read the changelog on the head CVS and see it for yourself please...

Not to mention that as new tech comes out and so forth that it will be made available in the SDK as soon as humanly possible.

Changes take time. This is over 300,000 lines of code mind you. Changes are being made to it constantly. AI, upgraded and improved sound support, and so forth.

PE,

I don't know what you are expecting, but the TGE is improving all the time. How can you say that improving editors, processes, documentation, etc. is not improving the engine? We are all working more than full time to make the TGE better. We have implemented CVS access, the Player's site is nearly done, the documentation is much better, we have implemented and are improving the shape importer process.

Your comments are WAY off base. You have already gotten more than you paid for. We can't make your game for you. All we can do is provide the tools and technology. If you are an advanced programmer, then it should be no problem for you to improve the engine on your own.

The engine has evolved way beyond the original release. Sound support, projectiles, weapon examples, gui examples, and a lot more. GarageGames is doing more than enough to support the engine. They could've released what they had without any support. They didn't have to include example guis, or any scripts, just the engine.

Like I said, GarageGames is doing an awesome job at supporting this. I'm not sure if you realize how many "rules" they're breaking by selling TGE at such a low price. It's unheard of. And in my opinion they've done enough.

That doesn't mean I've had enough support though :) I appreciate all of the help from the GG staff in the forums. You're doing an excellent job.

If you want to be up to date with the latest dev on Torque engine (and its tools : editor, converter, ...); you should use CVS.

BTW, GG already did a great job on the engine itself and the different tools.
