Maya to Dif help

by Robert Memmott · in Torque Game Engine · 03/07/2005 (9:10 pm) · 5 replies

I'm having a huge problem trying to get a building I've modeled in Maya 6.0 to export to a dif so I can pull it into Torque. Can anyone help?!?!?!?!? I'm fairly new to Maya and a newbie with Torque. I'm getting a lot of invalid brush errors, so I probably have some funky geometry or something, but I don't know what the problem is. You can download the model at http://users.sisna.com/horsinaround/4500/EMCB3.zip

Thanks,
Rob

Rob,

Nice world.

how are you trying to output Difs/? are you outputting to a MAP using the quake rally maya2map?

Actually there is no easy solution...if possible at all.

The only item that I know of that can export Map data is the above mentioned plug in...

Thanks. Some very artistic friends are working on it for me.
Recompiled maya2map for maya 6 and am trying to get it exported that way. :(

I can tell you that your results won't be so great...the maya2map exporter converts every face in your model to a cube (brush). Somewhere in the code I've heard there's a way to make it attempt to represent your geometry exactly, but I've never heard of anyone successfully doing so. Texturing does not come across either. You're best off using Quark or waiting for the Torque Construction set (just announced today in the news)

Hey Rob - did you ever have success re-compiling this for Maya 6? We have the same problem you do and are dying to get a scene file out of MAYA and into a .map. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

You wood never get this to export to dif the way it is ....You only can export BSP shapes and why use this map to def when there is a mayatodif exporter here(at link) when you model for Dif/bsp all the parts need to be separate chunks of mesh and only bsp shapes think of it as building blocks find a copy of level tools for maya
at Alias/download's there are good snapping to grid scripts . Go to some of the quake,Doom haflife, Mapping sites you will find level building Tutorials there .
