Ok.... I'm an idle TGE owner and I've got some big projects that need working on, but T2D is seriously just calling to me.

One of the things I'm wondering is what is the current/planned support for game pads, joysticks, etc etc.? Does T2D on Mac OS X use HID to allow support for all of these devices for example?

Currently, T2D doesn't support gamepads / joysticks on Mac, as it uses TGE's default input handling system. However, at GG we've implemented some slick gamepad / joystick input handling for our ZAP! on OS X, Windows, and Linux. We do plan to port this support back to Torque, and therfore to Torque 2D.

So, though I can't offer you a detailed timeline yet, this support should be coming online for OS X soon. And there is already limited joystick support for Windows.

Would "soon" qualify as being in or before the final release, or after?

Before the Early Adopter period ends, definitely.
