How do I get HEAD??

by Ed Johnson · in Torque Game Engine · 03/02/2005 (9:07 pm) · 9 replies

Okay, This really should be easier to find out. I've been looking all over the forums and resources on how to get access to CVS. I know what it is ive just never used it before. And I dont know what HEAD is either, im guessing its the most up to date codebase. I'm still using the 1.3 I downloaded a week ago when I first bought TGE.

P.S. Gotta love puns

Then you have the HEAD release. CVS used to be the only distribution for TGE, but they have moved to a semi-quarterly major release via the installers. This has a lot of advantages to both GG and the community (which has been discussed in a couple of threads), so you're good to go!

Oh, haha.

So, I have head. Thats good, since all over it says should have/works with "latest HEAD release".
Whats HEAD stand for anyways??

So how often is the CVS updated? Will I be notified? Will there be an announcement?

HEAD refers (generic term) to the latest version of code that is checked into a source management system. I doubt that they will make announcements about new versions of code in HEAD any longer (although I don't work for GG, so you never know!) but instead, announce the major version releases, such as 1.4 which is due after GDC (several months yet I would bet, so don't hold your breath quite yet!)

*inserts immature joke based on title*

Well, your question has already been answered, but I thought that something like that was necessary. ^^;;

Haha nice rhyme Stephen ;-)

Do they have a roadmap for what they're workin on for future releases?

To answer your original question Ed, you can find out how to get CVS setup to download from GG here.

The current CVS changelist is available here.

To questions then:
To get the latist installer, where do we go?
Given that 1.3.0 is the latist version then what is the CVS Revision/Tag 1.6.2.4?

The CVS Tags available are listed in the link that I provided for the CVS Changelists.

To get the latest installer, click on My Garage in the menu bar at the top of the GG site. Then from there you can click a download link to the product(s) you own.

Very good info. Just one silly question - how can you tell the version you have installed?

Thx
