3DS Max Question

I have ordered the suggested book on how to make models using 3ds max.
But I will not recieve it for another week. I just need to know how do I go about splitting faces? I click Poly then Split but all I get is a yellow line but how do I acually do the operation to Split Face or Split Poly? I little step by step if you could.
I am using 3DS Max 4.2.

I like to live under the assumption that people pay for their software and all of the benefitial support matierals.

You can split polys by selecting two or more edges or two verts, right clicking, and choosing "connect".

Thanks for the Tip.

I mean for vehicle nodes like "mount0" or for a "wheelHub"?
In Milkshape you just make a joint and unselect it. But in 3DS Max 4.2 if you make a "Joint"
it automatically has a bone attached to it.

Those are made with dummy nodes. You will need to brush up on your terminology of what means what in 3DS Max versus what Milkshape uses.

Dummy nodes are created in the "Helpers" panel.
