Attempting to start a team

Hi all,

I'm not sure this is the best way of finding motivated people to work on a project, but here goes. I'm in need of a fairly advanced programmer that can handle scripting, UI prototyping, and especially unit AI for an rts I'm trying to make. I'm in the process of finishing the first draft of the design doc....but other than that and creating my own art assets (I'm adept with 3dsmax)......I'm stuck until I find a programmer to collaborate with. I'd prefer someone living in Socal....as I have found meeting in person to discuss details, design plans, etc is more productive than im'ing. It doesn't hurt turnaround times, either. The first draft of the design doc should be complete by early next week.....so it'd be cool to try and get started soon, but we'll see. If this sounds interesting, please drop me an email (check my profile) or just post a reply here. Thanks.

Noone interested? Oh well....I'll keep trying. If anyone here lives in Southern California, has advanced scripting/programming skills, and even a cursory understanding of the TGE I'd be interested in getting you on the team. I need to begin proto-typing the design I've written for rts movement, aggro, attack rules and so forth. Currently we have 3 people on the team, an animator and a second modeler.....but we really need a programmer before we can get down to the nitty gritty....I'd attempt to throw up a website but we're just starting to model assets now, so there isn't too much to show aside from a couple units I'm currently working on. If anyone's interested, send me an email (follow my profile link). Thanks.

It may not be that they are not iinterested, just that you've limited your number of potential respondants greatly.

Unfortunately, Gonzo is correct, but in a different way as well--it can be extremely difficult to recruit members with the skillset you mention without having some way of enticing them to the project--there are tons and tons of projects that don't make it very far, and you'll need to somehow come up with a way to bootstrap your project to the point where it becomes attractive enough for more experienced devs to join.

And that isn't easy at all.

*Sighs* Agreed.....and I know where folks are coming from not wanting to invest effort and time in a hole that's simply going to dry up. Would you guys consider my throwing the Design doc up for preview a decent idea? Once our animator gets some of my stuff moving, I'll try and get a site up........I'm afraid prototyping is impossible, however, until a scripter and/or programmer is located.....

I think a well-done design doc would definitely help inspire uh inspiration.

Next question: is there an area to the site explicitly for posting design docs?

You could post a link for us here... link to your design doc...

I am interested in your project...send me some details...I am currently learning TGE Scripting..etc but have some C/C++ as well under my belt and live in Bonsall, CA (north San Diego).

I have my own project I am working on also but maybe we could do some trades... I am sure we could work something out...

also maybe we could meet once a week...

I own the TGE + RTS

let me know...

I live in Costa Mesa. But anywhere within an hour or so of here would be fine. I just want to be able to meet with people on a regular basis to work on stuff and motivate one another.
